Hey, y’all! Thought this is worth sharing…
There are two categories of liver herbs, the “movers” and the “protectors”. They both lend a hand when detoxifying the liver.
“Movers” tell the liver to produce and get rid of more bile, the liver waste that accumulates over time and is removed through the body via the gallbladder. Here are some of Maria Noel Groves, from “taste for life” magazine says are her favorites:
- dandelion leaf and roots
- burdock root
- chicory leaf and root
- bitter salad greens
- turmeric root
- schisandra berries
- artichoke leaf
These are better if you taste them, so, consider taking them as food, tea or liquid extracts as opposed to pill form. But, if you need to do the pill form, do it. 🙂
And, then you have the “protectors”. These guys prevent and may even repair liver damage from toxins. These include:
- milk thistle seeds
- turmeric
- schisandra
Cool little fact about milk thistle…it has shown that it could help with even the serious liver conditions…cirrhosis, fatty liver and hepatitis. It is best taken as capsules, “standardized to 80 percent silymarin”.
For the average Joe, such as I, and, you just want to give a boost to the liver try:
- dandelion
- burdock
- chicory
- artichoke
Here’s to a happy liver!
Love,
Lisa
