This is just what students need.  What a blessing!  Thank you, Governor Andrew Cuomo, whom introduced the tuition-free plan in January.  This requires a rather lavish budget, for there is an expected 200,000 students enrolling this fall.  So.  A huge thank you to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Students that have a household income cap of $100,000 and enrolled in a State University of New York or City University of New York will be eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship.  Students whom already pay nothing for college because they have a Pell Grant or New York Tuition Assistance grant, however, are not eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship.

What a huge savings this scholarship provides!  Students will be relieved of $4,000 – $6,500, depending if they go to a two or four-year college.  Aw,some!

Upon graduation, students are required to live and work in the state for as long as the funding was being received.

Governor Cuomo really values education, “Today, college is what high school was — it should always be an option even if you can’t afford it.”

He even included a 19 million-dollar budget for students attending a private college.  They will receive $3,000 in tuition costs.

‘Tennessee, Oregon, and the city of San Francisco have recently made tuition free at community colleges for all residents, regardless of income.’

‘But New York will be the first state to make tuition free for some residents at four-year public colleges. Lawmakers in Rhode Island are considering a similar proposal to make two years of public colleges tuition-free.’

This is really neat.  I think the love will continue to spread…Do you think so?

Love,

Lisa
